The Salon Project colorist, Dana in Long Island, loves blonding blondes and cannot wait to see her client’s smiles (mask free!) someday in the future. To learn more about Dana, you can follow her on Instagram @hairbydanar

Why are you a hair colorist/hairstylist?

Doing hair is a part of who I am. From a very young age, I knew this was what I aspired to be. Creating beautiful work and building relationships with our clients is the best. Being able to completely change someone’s outlook on how they view themselves is what drives me. For some, self-confidence is hard to find, and being able to help clients love the way they look and feel about themselves from a new hairstyle/color is the best feeling in the world.

Who is your ideal client?

Anyone that knows me knows I love making the world blonde, one client at a time. Many small details go into creating the perfect highlight for our clients, and I am proud to say that over the last 15 years, I’ve flawlessly perfected the process for ALL types of blondes. I love doing “teasey-lights” to create that subtle lived-in look while still getting a vibrant bright blonde.

What’s your favorite go-to product this month?

There are so many products to love, especially with the fantastic product lines we carry at The Salon Project. My current obsession is the Oribe brilliance and Shine Shampoo and Conditioner. It is a perfect mixture of shine, moisture, and strength without weighing the hair down at all.

What hair trends do you see evolving this winter and spring?

I believe now more than ever our clients are looking for that lower maintenance hair color without sacrificing how beautiful their hair can look. Dimensional color with pops of brightness by their face is always loved and adored by clients.

What motivates you every day?

The salon industry as a whole took a huge step back during the shutdown, and it’s truly inspiring to watch everyone in this industry and our clients adapt and overcome to navigate the new normal. After restrictions were lifted for many clients, the salon was their first stop back to “real” life. We missed all of our clients so much!

I look forward to the day I can see my client smiling at me again, mask free. Not only do I love making my clients feel beautiful, but I also cherish the connection we share.
